The Wainui Classic is a brilliant course but it is challenging. All athletes need to be confident riding their bike in the hills with some steep climbs and fast descents.
The race can be completed as an individual or a team.
The triathlon, Aquabike and duathlon events are all qualifiers for the TriNZ team to attend the World Championships. For more information click here

Swim
The swim leg will be a triangular course off Wainui beach. The 1.5km will be made up of 2 laps of 750m.
BIKE ~34.5km
The bike course is a hilly route with a fast descent into French Farm and a tough climb on the way back. We recommend a road bike over a time trial bike for this course if you have the option.
The olympic race is 2 laps on the bike:
Exit transition riding along the foreshore past the boat ramp and community centre to the 1st turn point.
Return past transition proceeding towards French Farm.
The turn point will be just before reaching the main Akaroa Road.
Return past transition - be mindful of short course athletes, runners and spectators.
Complete a 2nd lap.
The bike cut off time is 2 hours 30 minutes after the start of the event.

run
Be ready for a challenging two lap run course.
From transition run along the foreshore
Turn right up Wainui Valley Rd to the turn point.
Return towards transition on the hills side of the road.
Left into Cemetery Rd up the hill veering right at the Cemetery.
Enjoy some rolling terrain and stunning views to the turn point
Return down the hill turning right at the main road to commence your 2nd lap
At the end of the 2nd lap as you turn right off the hill run along the foreshore, past the turn up Wainui Valley Rd then turn right into the finish chute in front of the community centre.
Duathlon run #1 (~4km)
Duathletes will start at the transition, complete 2 laps of Wainui Valley Rd before returning to transition.
From transition run along the foreshore
Turn right up Wainui Valley Rd to the turn point.
Run back down Wainui Valley Rd to a turn point
ie you complete two laps of Wainui Valley Rd
Return towards transition on the hills side of the road.
aquabike
Aquabike athletes will complete the swim and bike leg of the triathlon. Your race will finish as you enter transition. We do encourage you to jog down to the finish line at the community centre ~500m to enjoy the thrill of running down the finish chute.
