SHORT COURSE

triathlon - swim 500m / bike ~17km / run 5km

duathlon - run ~2.5km / / bike ~17km / run 5km

Aquabike - swim 500m / bike ~17km

The Wainui Classic is a brilliant course but it is challenging. All athletes need to be confident riding their bike in the hills with some steep climbs and fast descents.

The race can be completed as an individual or a team.

Minimum age for this event is 13 years with age being taken at 31/12/22 (so turning 13 in 2022). We stress that young athletes must be competent riding safely in the hills. We have a Junior Aquathon for the less confident cyclists or those that prefer shorter distances.

Swim

The swim leg will be a 500m triangular course off Wainui beach.

BIKE ~17km

The bike course is a hilly route with a fast descent into French Farm and a tough climb on the way back. We recommend a road bike over a time trial bike for this course if you have the option.

The short course is 1 lap:

  • Exit transition riding along the foreshore past the boat ramp and community centre to the 1st turn point.

  • Return past transition proceeding towards French Farm.

  • The turn point will be just before reaching the main Akaroa Road.

  • Return to transition.
